Hyvvää Vappua!

Inspired today to put some more video on. Maybe it was just so cool to get on a bike, even just for good 15 minutes or so but still. Riding a bike never gets boring. And as someone really smart(yeah Mr. Relativity Theory) said "Life is like riding a bicycle - in order to keep your balance, you must keep moving." This text was quoted from a friend of mine on facebook from one of her quotes. Also I might have had just a bit too tight trousers for riding a bike so I might sound like the singer from any Heroic Metal band. But enjoy and don't mind the sound of the wind on the background. It just tells you I'm moving forward.
PS. Noi parran haivenet lähti tänään. Katellaan taas kylmemmillä keleillä jos pitää leukaa lämmittää ;)

Piece of mind

Pakko sanoa että ko viimeksi lukiossa elänyt niin että jokainen päivä muistuttaa toistaan, niin tuntuu mukavalta vaan toteuttaa rutiineja päivästä toiseen.

I have to admit that since after high school my life has been a lot about moving around quite constantly. Whether it's been running to school and training, or to work on top of all that I enjoy now just doing daily routine by going to work and training, sleeping, repeating.

I wanted to make a decent update since it has been a while so here you find again two videos
the other one in Finnish and the other one in English. I was a bit frozen while giving the English update but hope you'll get something out of it!

It was a really warm and nice today outside. Probably around 16 degrees Celsius. I'm always thankful for everything that has passed my way but I felt I have to say something that came to me just when I was driving home from that skatepark tonight.
When I was younger I really took sports super-seriously. Not a laughing matter at all. Just hard, brutal work. And I have had the honor to work with many good coaches during the years so far.

Now I wanted to mention one man, who had a huge effect on the thinking I have now in sports. He was my coach when I went to high school. He loved people who work hard and have the right mental attitude to realize that to become good really requires years and years of arduous work. He taught me a lot of the stuff that I know now, that effect sport alongside my training. How to eat, rest and take care of my body. But among all that appreciation towards work and training hard. He was the one who told me when I got out of school, on my last day. "You're a hard worker. But try to loosen up a bit, that's what you need now." And during the years I have remembered those words and that has made me carry myself over many mentally tough times. And those words I will always remember, because sport involves a lot of hard work. But at my level it's also your lifestyle. And the meaning of life in my opinion is to make most out of it. So try to keep your head light when you're not training, don't carry pointless burden on your shoulders. Forgive and do your best to people around you.

And so now I have to say this is Finnish but basically it's just "thanks" in Finnish.

PS. I wish to mention here too that I read the front page from the main editor of big Finnish news paper called Helsingin Sanomat. The editor talked about how being patriotic is something negative or commercial nowadays back home. Patriotism does not mean to go on about why we would be better than other countries. It is about being proud of your roots and being proud to be part of the society you were born and being yourself. Being away from Finland has made me realize how big part of me that is. So be proud that you are Finnish and that we can speak our own language and have our own culture. I will not comment anything about EU because that is a bigger matter. But as I am here, I am trying to learn all I can from the people I meet and try to see things from their point of view but I will always be proud of my home country and open about where I come from. Have a great Spring and stay tuned for more updates!!

One week into training season

So back on Sunday and a day off. Only skateboarding and pilates for me. We've started easy only 4 training sessions on the first week with easy running for 4 minutes with some 2 minute recovery and increasing the speed every now and then. After the runs it's been time to start getting the weight routine rolling. On the last training yesterday of this week I began feeling that I'm back at the level where I ended last training season. Increasing running speed to 1km in 4 minutes feels smooth so I'm not even that far from the running condition I had when I was still doing track&field, and it's only going to get better all the time.

Enjoying training and work already three weeks passed since I arrived so time flies by. That also means that every training session counts. Food, good nights sleep and staying relaxed are essential. Will upload a video blog again soon to make this blog more interesting!

Hope spring is getting there in Finland and the winter will finally be over for few months until it comes back.

Back to roots

This summer will be like the twelve labors of Hercules. The program I'll run through is like a return to training seven years back. At that time I was doing track&field so I had a great cardio and I did a lot of weights and dryland.
That was the days back in my hometown but then I could not skate at all. The last years in Helsinki has brought me to a decent technique that I will continue working on more when I come back to Finland in October. But so far this season is looking like combining all the good that works from the last six years.

Gaining more strength is essential when I train outside because it drains one out really fast if you're not bulked enough. That is one reason why the skaters in 80's were so fast.

Now just running and increasing circulation through that and beginning lifting are the main goals within the first month and a half of training.

I miss Finland and Helsinki and Oulu alot, many reasons to that but to know for all I'm holding the flag up for Finland out here.
